School marks 75th year with carnival next month
‘The Attorney-General has confirmed that he will be present as chief guest for the crowning night’
Lagalaga Sanatan Primary School celebrates its diamond anniversary next month. To celebrate the milestone, the school will host the inaugural Lagalaga Farmers Carnival to coincide with celebrations to mark the 75th year of its existence.
The three-day carnival will start on August 8.
Lagalaga Sanatan Primary School headteacher Rajen Prasad said the money raised from the carnival would be used to improve school facilities. Six queen contestants have been chosen for the carnival.
They are Miss Senidovu Adresha Prasad, Miss Railway Helen Manavure, Miss Baravi Ana Disavu, Miss Centralian
Mere Racoqe, Miss Riverside Amele Papa and Miss Naturu Karima Reddy. “The students, parents and the communities in Lagalaga, who are from farming background, are very excited to have this carnival,” Mr Prasad said. “For some it would be the first time to attend a carnival since it is very expensive to travel to Labasa Town for the Digicel Duavata Northern Crime Prevention Carnival and Vodafone Festival of the Friendly North at Subrail Park. “We decided to have the carnival alongside our school anniversary to bring people of different races together, appreciate the work of our grandparents in constructing the school during their hard times and promote unity. “The Attorney-General has confirmed that he will be present as chief guest for the crowning night.”
The school, which has eight teachers and 105 students from Years One to Eight and eight pre-schoolers, is located 55 kilometres from Labasa Town.
