Usamate Commissions Nalebaleba Water Project
Awater project has marked a new beginning for the rural village of Nalebaleba in Navosa.
Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Disaster Management and Meteorological Services, Jone Usamate commissioned the $193,000 investment, as the Fijian Government commits to giving all Fijians access to clean, safe drinking water by 2020.
“It is an investment we are happy to make, because from clean water there are many benefits that keep us more productive and more resilient to environmental hardships,” he said.
The project includes the construction of a new 45,000 litres cement tank, the laying of pipelines and installation of 15 stand pipes and showers.
“Every Fijian deserves to live with the security and happiness that only clean water can provide. Government has again made the extension of essential services such as water to our rural community a top priority.”
Through the Water Authority of Fiji, the Fijian Government has committed $11.3 million in the 2019/2020 National Budget to implement 32 water schemes in rural communities.
WAF’s Rainwater Harvesting Scheme is also distributing water tanks to non-metered areas and since its inception, it has given out over 11,400 water tanks. Of these, 1738 water tanks were distributed to Navosa and Nadroga, with this scheme being allocated $3 million in the national budget.
