Abusinessman is mourning the loss of his wife, who died in their three bedroom home in Vunisamaloa, Ba, after it was engulfed by fire on Friday morning.

Mukesh Raj Prasad and his late wife, Anjila Wati, 40 have been residing in their family home for the past 10 years. Mr Prasad, who is the owner of M Raj Construction in Ba, said the feeling of losing a loved one was unbearable, especially, knowing he couldn’t be there to help her escape from the fully engulfed home.

“My wife called me when I was still at work and when the fire started she called to say the fire started from outside and she was stuck inside the bedroom and couldn’t escape,” he said.

“I don’t know what she was doing at that time, but I know that the fire might have started in one of the bedrooms when she was alone at home.

“She was crying and said she couldn’t come out. I rushed home but when I got here everything was in flames, I couldn’t save her.”

He said their daughter, 14-year-old Shamiya Prasad, who is a student at A D Patel College in Ba, was still in school when the fire occurred.

The National Fire Authority stated the Ba Fire Station was alerted at 11.11am of the fire and responded immediately.

NFA reported that when the team arrived, the home was fully engulfed in flames and the roof had collapsed. A Toyota Prius car which was parked at the family’s garage was also destroyed in the fire.

The investigating team together with assistance from Ba Police officers will carry out investigations to determine the cause of death and how the fire started.

“NFA is saddened by the loss of a life in the fire and expresses their deepest condolences to the family for its loss,” the statement read.
