Fiji Football Association chief executive officer, Mohammed Yusuf has reacted to rumours that the Lautoka Football Association would dissolve. In an interview with SUNsports at the Tanoa Waterfront Hotel in Lautoka yesterday, Yusuf said the rumuors was not true.

“It’s total lies,” he said.

“We are not going to dissolve them they are duly elected people we only want to strengthen them on how to run the association.”

He said Fiji FA met with the Lautoka FA for the sole purpose to discuss about the secondary schools competitions and not to discuss on dissolving the Lautoka FA.

“We are here from Suva basically to have a good meeting with the Fiji Secondary Schools because of how they are running their zone competitions,” he said. “We are running our youths under- 16 and under- 18 and we are trying to duplicate things so we want to help them.”

ZONE COMPETITIONS

He said in the future the Fiji FA would run and also fund the zonal secondary school competitions.

“We will pay for the schools, the referees and all then Fiji Football will select the elite players from each zone from the secondary schools for the IDC,” he added. “Currently, the system in the secondary schools zones see some of the schools play two matches or three matches and there is a zone winner and they go to the secondary schools IDC but all the other elite athletes from the other schools miss out, there is no progression for them.” Yusuf added premier districts were getting about $25,000 to $30,000 while senior districts were receiving about $10,000 to $15,000 each year from the Fiji FA.
