ota tale! (We will meet again) were the last words Mere Lewaravu heard as her father bade them farewell a week ago.

Her father Mikaele Sarosaro, 63, died at Korovuto, Nadi, yesterday morning. Mr Sarosaro was travelling with his wife, Ana Yacatabu, to Nadi in a vehicle driven by their 22-year-old son.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed that the incident happened at 5.45am. The vehicle went off the road and collided with a lamp post along the Queens Road. An emotional Mrs Lewaravu recalled the last conversation she had with her father before the trip.

“We were together in Suva and before we left for Nadi, my dad farewelled us and the last words he spoke, ‘Sota tale’,” she said. “Dad was coming from Suva this morning when the accident happened. I was working with my sister when we received the call about the fatal accident and that our parents are in a serious condition.

“We both rushed to the hospital where we came to know that dad ha passed away. I just could not believe or even accept that he was gone. “He was healthy and he was taking care of our farm at our village at Nuku in Serua. He always came with my mother to visit us in Nadi. All the six siblings are living and working here in Nadi.

“We miss our dad. He was a very hard working and a kind-hearted man. He loved to gather people around him and our house was always full of people,” said the griefstricken daughter.

Mr Sarosaro and his wife were rushed to the Nadi Hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Ms Yacatabu suffered injuries to his legs and was transferred to the Lautoka Hospital.

The driver is yet to be interviewed and postmortem is yet to be arranged.
