Stand with Govt to improve living standard: Adimaitoga
Ameeting at Nabouwalu, Bua, has been told that Government will not give up in trying to improve living standards for the betterment for all Fijians.
The comment came from Assistant Minister for iTaukei Affairs Selai Adimaitoga while opening the Bua Provincial Council meeting at Naulumatua House yesterday. She said the goal was a transformed family for a better Fiji.
“We have our responsibilities as owners of this land to assist the Government in its work in improving our living standards,” Ms Adimaitoga said.
She said that depending on
to look after their resources well, in accordance with lifelong teachings that the were known for, would help in addressing issues that the were currently blamed for. The Assistant Minister then
stressed the increase in the crime rate in the past few months.
“In March of this year, there were about 28 people out of the 58 who were convicted of breaking the law according to the DPP’s Office,” Ms Adimaitoga said.
“From this statistics, 30 cases of rape, 19 of which were from below the age of 19 and from the total 30 cases, while only one was a male there were 29 female rape victims. Ms Adimaitoga reiterated the statistics to delegates of the Bua Provincial Council meeting because it portrayed the kind of generation Fiji would have in future.
“If we don’t look after our leadership roles in our then we are breeding a generation that will entertain rape, violence towards women, no respect, and no love and no respect for our elders,” she said.
The Assistant Minister pleaded with delegates to raise the standards of leadership and guard their communities and villages before it was too late.
