Police nab three men in alleged Labasa homicide
Quick work by Police in Labasa has landed three men in custody in connection with the alleged murder of Sanjesh Kumar.
Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro confirmed three men were being questioned. She said the post-mortem examination would be conducted tomorrow. Yesterday, family members recalled how Mr Kumar had stopped his taxi on the road just outside his home in Wailevu to kiss his youngest child, eight-year-old Shaina Kumar.
That was Saturday afternoon, the last time 12-year-old Sahil Kumar and Shaina saw their father. The next day he was found dead next to a farm house in Vunikawakawa. Mr Kumar, 32, was allegedly murdered.
He has left behind his wife, Renuka Devi, son Sahil and daughters Shaniya and Shaina.
“Papa stopped his taxi and kissed Shaina and told me to look after her,” said a tearful Sahil.
“I feel very sad.”

could barely string sentences together as she broke down every time she talked of her husband. The two had met 14 years ago. It was a love story. They were living some houses apart, but Mr Kumar never had the strength to approach her in the community.
“He approached me when we were in Labasa Town,” she said and started crying.
“He was such a nice man, always laughing and making me laugh with him. He loved his children,” she said.
The last conversation the couple had was about food.
“He was leaving home and I told him to eat something, his reply was that he had had a sandwich earlier and was not hungry,” Mrs Devi recalled.
For Mrs Devi, the future is now pretty bleak. Mr Kumar was the sole breadwinner for the family. Mrs Devi said she had no idea what to do now.
Her middle child, 11-year-old Shania goes to Labasa Special School. She said they would see what the future holds. Edited by Percy Kean
