NO INTENTION TO TAKE REVENGE: COMPLAINANT

- ASHNA KUMAR

A complainant told the High Court that she had no intention to take revenge on the accused after she lost a property case in which the accused was a witness against her.

This is in the trial of a former National Federation Party provisional candidate charged with 11 counts of sexually related offences which started at the High Court in Suva on Monday.

The 66-year-old man is charged with four counts of rape and seven counts of sexual assault. It is alleged the accused raped his 54-year-old sister-in-law in Suva on June 28, last year.

It is alleged the accused approached the woman and asked if he could spend the night at her house because he was too tired after a wedding and could not go back home. He allegedly started knocking on the woman’s bedroom door in the middle of the night and then forcefully got into the room.

He then allegedly raped the woman. The woman managed to free herself and locked him in the bathroom and sought help from a friend who then informed the Police.

Trial day 3:

The complainant told the court that her property case was heard in the Western Division and she had lost the case. She was ordered to pay more than $100,000 to the applicant.

She told the court that the accused was the witness and had given evidence in favour of the applicant in the civil matter.

She also told the court that while her husband was working in Nadi and later died, she had not sought help from the accused for her husband’s funeral arrangements and ceremonies. The complainant told the court that the accused had willingly arranged the funeral and ceremonies and had advised her that it would take place from his home in the West. She also told the court that she had attended her husband’s funeral which was held at his home. The trial continues before Justice Rajasinghe today.
