FIVE PEARLS IN NASINU
Getting the team physicality and fitness on track will be a priority for Fiji Gold Nasinu Netball side.
This is before they take part in the 2019 National Netball Inter-District Championship at the National Netball Centre tomorrow.
Nasinu Netball president Mereseini Delai said despite finishing second to Suva last year they are hopeful for an improved performance this year. “Preparations are going on as normal and the girls have had a solid two months straight of strength and conditioning session,” Delai said
“The girls are all exited and looking forward to the two-day competition where we were fortunate enough to have five current Fijian Pearls reps in the team.”
“We have shooters in World Cup captain Unaisi Rauluni and tall tower Lydia Panapasa. In midcourt, we have our favourite on point pro wing defence (WD) in Alisi Galo. In our defence, we have the services of lanky Episake Kahatoka and we are honoured to also have with us Dee Bolakoro. “We also have the services of former reps Alesi Waqa Paul and Alisi Naqiri.
“Our new inclusions include our national beach volleyball rep Claire Delai, Mary Grace Kolinisau, the younger sibling of Osea Kolinisau. We also have three strong attackers in Kelera Masau, Salote Kaibau and Unaisi Kaveni.
“We organized a standard training programme which was strictly coordinated by our coach Akanisi Drasuna who is also a former national rep.
“There are only 5 teams we will be taking in for the IDC and we all focused on taking each game at a time and obviously a definite win.
“We will not be taking any team lightly in the pool stages because we are aware of the fact that they will come fully prepared.
“Last year we lost out to Suva in the finals in the major grade and we are positive to turn things around this year.
“Despite netball being a noncontact sport I have reminded the girls on the need to be on track with their fitness level as the sport requires you to be actively moving around.
“We would like to urge to all our Nasinu supporters to take time out and be part of this competiton as they presence will boost the girls’ performance.”
