Hill and road runs every morning assisted the Kadavu Under-12 netball side to upset Nasinu 13-12 at the National Netball Centre yesterday. Kadavu coach Ateca Salusalumarama believes running every morning has paid off for the girls. “We want to thank the girls for their effort and also the parents for their support.

“We just need teamwork as without teamwork and bonding we will not produce the positive results we wanted,” Salusalumarama said. “Our preparation in Kadavu was really tough. We have to wake up climb the hills and do road runs every morning and during the day. It was tough for the girls during our two weeks preparation.”

The two teams had a strong start from the opening whistle as they displayed an entertaining attacking play and getting all their possessions count in the semi circle. The teams drew 5-5 at fulltime. In five minutes of extra time both teams lifted momentum and were

locked 7-7.

It was then down the last three centre passes which saw Kadavu maintained composure and confidence and won the first centre pass. Nasinu regrouped and lifted momentum in their mid courts which awarded them a one point in the second centre pass but Kadavu’s fitness showed in the last centre pass which was the decider after five turnovers Kadavu managed to relegate Nasinu to the minor playoff as the Southners march into the semifinal today. Meanwhile, Kadavu have all their lower grades qualified for the semifinals today.

In the U9 grade Kadavu Silver defeated their sisters Kadavu Bronze 5-2.

In the U10 grade Kadavu defeated Suva Royal 6-3, Kadavu upset Suva Aqua 10-2 in U11 and Kadavu U12 upset Nasinu 13-12.

The U13 and U14 grades will have their quarterfinal matches today followed by semi final and finals.
