Australian Federal Police upskill officers in policing cybercrime investigation

Four Fijian Police officers underwent specialised training to enhance their knowledge on cybercrime.
The training this past week was facilitated by the Australian Federal Police through its Cyber Safety Pacifika programme in Nadi. The training under the guidance of a Facebook Liaison Officer specifically targeted the handling of social media complaints on Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and other popular social media platforms.
The aim of the regional training is to help cybercrime investigators understand how to flag down malicious content on social media that is being used to defame others or bring disrepute to one’s character.
These include the sharing of explicit or pornographic materials such as videos, hate speech, or posts intended to create ill will among two or more people.
The four Police officers are from the Western, Northern and Police headquarters as well as an officer based at the Cybercrime Head office with the Criminal Investigation Department in Toorak.
The officers will utilise their newly acquired skills to liaise with the Facebook liaison officer to trace the person sharing or the author of the original content. Members of the public are advised to send their complaints via the Fiji Police Facebook page which will be referred to the Cybercrime Unit for investigation purposes.
The Fiji Police Force appreciates the opportunity given by the Australian Federal Police in upskilling its officers in this modern way of policing particularly with crimes committed through the use of social media.
