INDONESIAN COUNTERPART TO STRENGTHEN TIES
The Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Naval Division, Captain (Navy) Humphrey Tawake has visited Indonesian counterparts in Indonesia to strengthen ties and co-operation. The visit saw Captain (Navy) Tawake welcomed directly by Indonesian National Armed Forces Kasal Admiral Siwi Sukma Adji with a military parade at the Navy Headquarters (Mabesal), Cilangkap, East Jakarta, Indonesia. The purpose of the visit was to strengthen military co-operation
between the two countries, especially the co-operation of the Fijian Navy and Indonesian Navy. Various matters were discussed during the meeting, including cooperation in the field of officers’ education and navy co-operation between the two countries. Captain (Navy) Tawake also visited PT. PAL Indonesia (Persero) in Surabaya to explore the procurement of patrol boats from PT. PAL Indonesia (Persero) to strengthen our Navy fleet. Captain (Navy) Tawake was accompanied by the Indonesian Defence Attache for the State of Fiji concurrently with Nauru, Tuvalu and New Caledonia Colonel INF Efran Gunawan and Maritime Officer staff, Commander Ledua Yaco.
The defence co-operation between Indonesia and Fiji began since the signing of the Defense Co-operation Agreement in 2017. This marked the beginning of the agreement on military and defence co-operation between the two countries in the Pacific region.
