Telecom helps needy children

-

Telecom Fiji donated $7000 to Save the Children Fiji as sponsorship for the Telecom Fiji Ambrose Golf tournament, a charity event to help further the cause of protection of children.

This is the third year in a row that Telecom has sponsored the event.

“As part of our corporate social responsibility to Fijians, Telecom supports a number of charities.

“Save the Children Fiji has an important role to play in the protection of child rights and raising awareness on various issues affecting our children,” said Telecom chief executive officer, Charles Goundar.

“As a proud Fijian who grew up in Fiji, I understand the need for our communities to engage more in spreading awareness on child protection.

“I wouldn’t want children to go through any traumatic experiences, no parent should go through this. This is one of the main reasons why we have worked closely with Save the Children Fiji.”

Telecom sponsored $5000 in 2017 and increased to $7000 in 2018.

Shairana Ali, chief executive officer of Save the Children Fiji, yesterday received the donation from Telecom Fiji.

“Having a corporate organisation such as Telecom on board gives us greater confidence in carrying out our work and also inspires us to continue our work in making a difference in children’s lives,” said Ali.

“There’s so much to do, we need a lot of awareness-raising on child protection given the existing issues we face nowadays. “And holding such fundraising activities is crucial in helping us extend the reach of our programs in Fiji, especially the more remote and isolated communities.”

The Telecom Fiji Ambrose Golf tournament is scheduled for Friday, September 6, at the Suva Golf Club and is the largest annual fundraising event for Save the Children Fiji.

All money collected is directed to the existing Save the Children Fiji’s programmes in Fiji. Goundar has encouraged corporate and private organisations to join the initiative and support this great cause for Fijian children
