Wara Confirmed For Singapore Tour, Says Rodu
England-based Scott Wara will be part of the Vodafone Fijian Under-23 side that play Singapore this week.
Fijian U23 coach Marika Rodu said the 19–year old Stoke City defender is part of the 20-member squad for the OFC Men’s Olympic qualifying competition set for September 21 to October 5. The competition is going to be played in Suva and Lautoka. The Fijian U23 side departed our shores yesterday for the two- match clash against their
Singapore counterparts. “We are taking 19 players and Scott Wara will join us in South Korea,” Rodu said. “This match is very important to us as this is how we can gauge ourselves in the qualifier.
“In between May to June, Singapore have played seven international matches but we have yet to start.
“It is about trying to defend the home pressure when the qualifier gets underway at home. We have to test these boys on away matches as some of the Singapore players are playing professionally in the Super League.” Rodu confirmed that six players from the Pacific Games squad are part of the team.
“This is also exposure for the players to gain more international experience. The qualifier will be tough as all other teams have similar dream.” Some notable names in the touring Fijian U23 squad are Kishan Sami, Peni Tuigulagula, Isikeli Ratucava, Savenca Baleidrokadroka, Patrick Joseph, Tito Vodowaqa, Kaliova Dau, Atunaisa Naucukidi, and Afraaz Ali. Seven officials are also part of the tour. Rodu added that they would name their captain today.
