MPs raise issues in exchanges

1. Opposition MP Ro Filipe Tuisawau and AttorneyGeneral Aiyaz SayedKhaiyum.

Ro Filipe: Some of the price increases are unmanageable by the public. What is the Government doing apart from decreasing the salary?

A-G: I think that the honourable member, not that I think, I know that he has actually misled Parliament when he actually said that we’ve decreased salaries, in fact it’s to the contrary that Government has increased salaries for civil servants some of them up to 80 per cent.

He does not know what is happening around him.

2. Opposition MP Aseri Radrodro in response to Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum’s ministerial statement.

What is EFL (Energy Fiji Limited) giving to the resource owners? Of course, it’s giving them peanuts, giving them nothing.

3. Minister for Employment Parveen Bala and Opposition MP Mikaele Leawere

Bala: For the last financial year, we have not received any labour non-compliance issue from anyone working with foreign film production companies in Fiji

Leawere: I tend to disagree with the honourable minister in his response because there are workers who have been exploited by these foreign film companies, especially the one that is filming in Pac Harbour.

Bala: As I have mentioned in my response, as far as the ministry is concerned there have been no complaints received. But if there’s any complaints lodged to the Honourable Minister’s office in Serua and what he is operating, I would suggest that the complainant should come and give his report to our office at Civic House, fourth floor.
