POLICE OFFICER URGES USE OF 5RS CONCEPT

The contestants of the Vodafone Ba Riverside Carnival have been urged to accept changes to overcome challenges.

The acting officer-in-charge of the Ba Policing District (OCPD) Inspector Samisoni Bai has encouraged the girls on the theme “Climate

Change is real, change now to battle the unknown”.

“This is the one festival that is eagerly awaited by the people of Ba irrespective of the age,” he said. “This year’s carnival theme chosen by the committee is quite bold and clear. The theme speaks volumes.” Inspector Bai said one of the Government’s initiatives in mitigating climate change was the concept of using the five Rs.

“We want to promote the five R concepts: Rethink, Refuse, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Using these five Rs concept will have a greater effect within the community and the nation as a whole,” he said. Carnival president Arvin Singh said this year’s theme gave opportunities for the contestants to create awareness on issues that needed to be highlighted within the communities.

Mr Singh said the carnival had two major objectives, one of which was to raise funds to beautify the town and the other was to build an international standard swimming pool facility.

The committee intends to start this project by the end of the year. He acknowledged the major sponsor Vodafone Fiji Limited and other sponsors, which included civil servants, Dayal Steels Limited, V.R Builders Nadi, Fiji Sugar Corporation Ba and Ba Town Council. The carnival ends next Monday (September 9) with the crowning of the Riverside Queen.
