Looking for Thai food? Drop in at Yum Yum Taste of Thai Bistro at Kundan Village, Princes Road, Tamavua.

Built in 2017, the $150,000 investment is a Thai treat while in Fiji.

The family business focuses on Thai and Ceylon dishes.

Bistro owner PL Munasinghe said: “It is a specialty Thai restaurant and we named it the Thai Bistro.

“It has limited sitting capacity for patrons; we provide take away service also.”

“We first focused on traditional Thai because the chef was an overseas Thai chef. We found that the traditional Thai

was very different to what the local people were used to here,” he said.

“Now we have what we call Thai fusion food and the Thai fusion food which is traditional Thai but formulated to appeal to the local palate.

“We also continued to serve Ceylon cuisine and since 2017 it has become very popular especially for lunch and dinner; words have spread now. It is a very delightful little place.”

Mr Munasinghe said they currently employ seven staff.

“Our head chef was working for a fivestar Thai restaurant in Sri Lanka before joining Yum Yum Taste of Thai. He is a fully trained Thai chef,” he said.

“We have a two page menu and limited number of dishes because it is a specialty restaurant; under each menu

item there is a description as to what it is about; like the flavour that has been used so that it is easy for the customers to decide.

“Next month we are going to change the menu. It will be the same thing but there would be lot more dishes and vegetarian options.

“We have seen that a lot of the customers prefer vegetarian food so we are offering more lot of Thai base vegetarian food; it is quite enticing to see that menu.

“We want to be very distinctive in our flavors. We want to give customers a good experience with their value of money; good food at a great price.

“Its location is convenient to customers; it is gaining popularity. There are other eateries nearby so the village is now a food specialty zone.”

The outlet opens at 11am to 8:30am every day except Mondays.
