Police are tightlipped on investigations into the deaths of five people found at Nausori Highlands in Nadi almost two weeks ago.

It is understood that they do not want to reveal much information because it could hinder their investigations.

Nirmal Kumar, 63, a carpenter, his wife Usha Kumar, 54, their daughter Nileshni Kajal, 34, and her daughters Sanah, 11, and Samarah, 8, were found on August 26. A post-mortem examination revealed that the five people ingested some chemical which resulted in their deaths.

But it is yet to be known what chemical caused the deaths of the five members of the family, who lived at Legalega in Nadi.

Police are awaiting the results of further tests to find out what chemical caused the deaths.

In response to some questions by the Fiji Sun yesterday, Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro only said that investigations were continuing.

The tragedy in the highlands is a muchtalked about topic around the country right now.

A one-year-old girl, who is the Kumar’s granddaughter, was found near the five close to the edge of a cliff.

She miraculously was alive, but it is not known whether she was in the highlands the whole of Sunday night until the bodies were discovered or whether she was left there on Monday morning.

Known by the media and others as the “miracle baby”, Samaira was admitted at Lautoka Hospital and she is now with her mother who arrived in the country from Australia after learning about the tragedy. A man who resides in Christchurch, New Zealand, and is alleged to be a witchdoctor is a person of interest in Police investigations into the five deaths.

The man and his wife have a stop departure order against them as Police investigate the case.
