Bureta Launches First Development Plan
Bureta tikina (district) in Ovalau has launched its first five-year strategic development plan to lift the standard and quality of life for its people. The district comprises four villages: Naiviteitei, Nasaga, Tai and Navuloa.
Donato Koyanasau, chairperson of the development committee, highlighted the following:
The main purpose of the five- year strategic development plan is to formally acknowledge and identify the resources that are available in our vanua and utilise them sustainably in a co-ordinated manner in order to generate the desired results that will ultimately improve the quality of life of each person and their households.
The vanua of Bureta is blessed with fertile land stretching over valleys and mountains, abundance of water from the largest river in Ovalau, rich marine life, ease of transportation by air or sea and passive income from leased freehold land. However; these resources have not been put to efficient use so that it translates into improved living standards for our people.
Our desire for a better-quality life through efficient and sustainable use of our resources is the key driver behind the preparation of a five-year strategic development plan.
“We were fortunate to have the professional services of Sereana Qoro (Bureta Ovalau) and Latileta Qoro (our vasu from Vuniwai, Saqani) both of whom volunteered to conduct workshops, facilitate the planning process and prepare the actual plan,” he said.
The plan has a vision: “KO BURETA ME SAUTU DINA SARA” “SUSTAINABLE HOLISTIC PROSPERITY FOR THE VANUA OF BURETA”.
