- LUSIANA TUIMAISALA SUVA Feedback: lusiana.tuimaisala@fijisun. com.fj

Six months down the line the Pacific Cement Pte Ltd will build their first warehouse in Lautoka.

This was confirmed by company chief executive officer Sowani Tuidrola.

Speaking to Fiji Sun, Mr Tuidrola said this warehouse is to cater for the Western Division.

New warehouse

“We want to built a warehouse in Lautoka that can accommodate for around 3,000 to 5,000 tonnes of cement,” he said.

“This new warehouse will be built on a three acre land.” Mr Tuidrola said since last month the company was renting a warehouse in Califonia Road, Lovu, in Lautoka, and it’s operating very well.

“We don’t have any warehouse in other centres. In Labasa we send it directly to the merchants. Lautoka will be the first warehouse. “We are still in the preliminary stages of looking at Lautoka project.”

He said: “To build a warehouse is quite expensive. But that will depend on the size of the warehouse to built.”

Mr Tuidrola did not comment on the cost of the new warehouse.

Road restriction

He said due the road weight restriction they were hiring a Cruz Holding Limited barge shifting cement from Suva to Lautoka and Labasa.

“We load cement for the West and Labasa every 10 days depending on the availability of the barge.” This week he said they would be loading 1,100 tonnes of cement by barge.

“We will offload 700 tonnes in Lautoka and 400 tonnes to Labasa.”

Mr Tuidrola said one barge can carry 1,100 tonnes of cement, this is equivalent 48 lorries on the road with an average weight of 23 tonnes.

The cost he said was quite comparable.

“For us our customers are very important.”

When asked on plans to built a warehouse in the Northern Division, he said plans are all in the pipeline.

“We hope this will be a good year for Pacific Cement,” he added.
