THE LIGHT ISSUE

A sign at the newly-installed traffic lights at Edinburgh Drive, Waimanu Road, Princes Road and Kings Road junction is quite peculiar. It advises pedestrians to cross when the road is clear because the traffic light is not functioning. This is one of the busiest junctions in Samabula, which also caters for Fiji National University students. And to think the lights were installed recently. Road safety should be a priority and authorities must make sure traffic lights are working.

THE RUGBY FEVER

Fijians around the world are confident that the Fiji Airways Flying Fijians will defeat the Wallabies in their first match of the Rugby World Cup next weekend. BTL has been told that the general feeling is that the team has prepared well for the World Cup campaign. A critic said the players should be reminded of Les Brown’s quote -”the harder the battle, the sweeter the victory”. It basically means that if they work hard for anything, the final outcome is that much sweeter. A win will not be easy, though.

THE NIGHTCLUB DRAMA

A visit to nightclubs for a few drinks is a common thing for many couples. However, it often does not end well for some of them, especially when both partners are drunk. BTL witnessed an incident a few nights ago when a couple was thrown out of a nightclub. Along with them were some other young boys and a few punches were thrown here and there on the city’s main street. The female partner, however, was the one on the receiving end of things from her husband who accused her of all sorts of things. The main allegation was that she was trying her luck on one of the boys, but despite her denials she was sworn at and assaulted. Considering the situation, it is advisable that couples drink in moderation when visiting nightclubs because such cases often result in tragedies. Better still; couples should just drink at home.
