HIDDEN PARADISE CARNIVAL SET TO BE BIGGER

The 4th Vodafone Hidden Paradise Savusavu carnival is set to be bigger and better this year. Themed ‘Protect the ocean and you protect yourself’ the carnival was launched on Friday at The Planter’s Club in Savusavu.

This year, the carnival will see four contestant­s take part in the event, which starts on September 30 and concludes on October 5 with the crowning night.

Chief guest and Vodafone Head of e-Commerce and Corporate Affairs Shailendra Prasad said the theme for this year’s festival was on the right track.

“With a majestic setting of Savusavu and surrounded by the sea, it is important and timely that we all became environmen­tally conscious and the risks and dangers we pose to the ocean,” Mr Prasad said.

“The importance of the food chain, fish species, and mangroves has to be realised before it is too late.”

The committee chairperso­n, Manoj Lal, said: “We must advocate their protection because they are some of the most biological­ly rich and economical­ly valuable ecosystem on our planet.

“These types of event will certainly promote values of good self-esteem and self-confidence.

“It will present you the opportunit­y to develop your personal skills, public speaking, which will help you throughout your life.”

The festival committee in the past have funded several projects like the children’s park, digital clock, health walk projects, and donated to the Savusavu Hospital and Lomani Au Orphanage.

Also present during the launch was Principal Administra­torCakaudr­ove, Setareki Dakuiboca.
