CORAL COAST CARNIVAL
ACTING PM: BE PROUD OF YOUR TOWN, LOOK AFTER IT
Be proud of your town and look after it. That was the underlying message from the Acting Prime Minister and Attorney-General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, while opening the 2019 Vodafone Coral Coast Carnival in Sigatoka on Saturday night. Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said the carnival was significant because it brought about a sense of social network of community and people coming together for a particular cause.
“That is critically important for any country or society or any locality to ensure we have a spirit of wellbeing,” he said as he addressed the community and five contestants who were taking part in the charity event. “When we talk about wellbeing, it is about the individual wellbeing, the mental wellbeing, the physical wellbeing and also spiritual wellbeing.”
He also acknowledged the sponsors for coming onboard for a worthy cause and called on the community for their support for their town.
“There have been works carried out by the municipal council in terms of river embankment, which is still going on and other programmes like the roads and streets lighting and also the water circulation system,” Mr Sayed-Kaiyum said.
“We need all your focus ability to help ensure that Sigatoka Town does well.
“I have a very simple message. Please feel proud of the town. Please look after your town.
“Don’t throw rubbish or dirty your town or river, your waterways, your river systems, the creeks as it is not healthy for the environment.”
