Sivo Grand Final Target

Parramatta Eels winger Maika Sivo will fly his dad over from Fiji ... on one condition

Maika Sivo will fly dad Joeli over from Fiji to watch Parramatta’s finals run on one condition.

And one condition only. The Eels have to make the grand final.

The winger has been one of the finds of the year, and scored twice as the Eels put the Broncos to the sword on Sunday afternoon. That brought up his 22nd for the season, and helped catapult Parramatta into a do-ordie semi-final against the Storm on Saturday.

Semi Final

Sivo’s dad, who didn’t own a passport and had never left Fiji until a month ago, was part of a heartwarming video produced by the NRL in which he was flown from the Pacific nation to western Sydney to surprise his son as part of Father’s Day.

Joeli took in a game at Bankwest Stadium, and watched his try-scoring son run riot against Newcastle.

And the winger has promised to pay for dad to come back to Australia if they beat the Storm and get past the Roosters to make the grand final.

“I was talking to him last night,” Sivo told foxsports.com.au after the Eels’ emphatic 58-0 win.

“And he said I’ll come if you guys get to the grand final. Yeah we’ve got a tough road ahead of us, but we’re just taking it week by week.”

Sivo, like many of this Eels side, have painful memories from playing Melbourne. The winger was sent for ten after rocking Jahrome Hughes at Magic Round in a 64-10 loss, but he says he is out to atone for Parramatta against compatriots Tui Kamikamica and Suliasi Vunivalu.

“We didn’t turn up with the right attitude for that game, that’s what cost us,’ Sivo added.

“I got sent to the bin for ten in that game for a dangerous tackle, so I’ve got to make up for the boys.

“We were pretty close in Fiji camp, and that’s where we know each other from. It’s going to be a good match-up.

It’s always good to play against some for your countrymen. Melbourne are a pretty good team with some boys, the challenge next week will be a good one.”
