Case adjourned for man facing manslaught­er, drink driving charges

Apre-trail conference concerning a man facing multiple charges, including manslaught­er, will be heard on November 22, 2019.

Viliame Ratoto, 30, had his case adjourned after appearing yesterday before High Court Judge Justice Salesi Temo. Ratoto’s lawyer from the Legal Aid Commission, Sokoveti Daunivesi, also requested more time from the court to file for amended ‘voir dire’ grounds. Ratoto is charged with two counts of manslaught­er, one count of breaching the zeroalcoho­l limit and two counts of dangerous driving occasionin­g grievous harm.

On the first count of manslaught­er, it is alleged Ratoto was driving a motor vehicle in a manner which was reckless and caused serious harm to Archana Amrita Chand, which resulted in her death.

Ratoto is charged with two counts of manslaught­er, one count of breaching the zero-alcohol limit and two counts of dangerous driving occasionin­g grievous harm.

along Kanace Road in Valelevu in a manner which was dangerous to the public and as a result caused bodily injuries to 35-yearold Anjula Chand, which resulted in her death as well.

He is also alleged to have caused bodily injuries to Privasinal Chand and allegedly had a concentrat­ion of 156.2 milligrams of alcohol in his blood, which surpassed the prescribed limit. Bail has also been extended for Ratoto.
