PM’s visit to Cuba starts tomorrow

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimaram­a leaves New York and flies to Cuba tomorrow for an official visit.

He will be accompanie­d by Permanent Secretary in the PM’s office, Yogesh Karan and Fiji’s Permanent Representa­tive to the United Nations, Ambassador Satyendra Prasad.

Mr Bainimaram­a has been invited by Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Cane.

He will visit the LatinAmeri­can School of Medicine (ELAM), and will meet with the Fijian medical students.

He will be met on his arrival in Havana by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez and the State Protocol.

After a briefing on his programme at the Protocol Lounge, he and his delegation will be driven to a Protocol House of the Council of State at “El Laguito”. Mr Bainimaram­a will hold bilateral talks with Mr DíazCanel.

In addition, President DíazCanel will host a State Dinner honouring the visit. Other Government senior officials will hold bilateral talks with their Cuban counterpar­ts. He will lay a wreath at the Statue of the José Martí, Cuban National Hero, at the Revolution Square in Havana.

He will visit and receive full explanatio­ns about the Cuban Program of “Early Warning System for hurricanes and others natural disasters”;

He will tour the Cuban Medical, Tropical Medicine and Biotechnol­ogy complex, Sugar Sector, and any other places of interest.

He would also visit other places of interest and hold meetings. Agreement on Visa Exemption and MoU in Sports are part of PM’s agenda as well.
