Driving wjll be a challenge in the current weather conditions for the Central Division, especially in the Lami and Suva-Nausori corridors.

There is poor visibility because of the heavy downpour and an increase in the number of potholes.

As a result, the Fiji Roads Authority is advising members of the public, especially motorists, to be patient and drive to the condition.

In a statement issued yesterday, persistent rainfall had resulted in an increase in the number of potholes in some places around the country, particularly in the Central Division.

“Our contractor is working hard to resolve the situation but this is likely to take a few days, subject to weather conditions,” the authority said in the statement.

Taxi driver Rohit Singh said driving around the city was worrying.

“If some drivers are not careful this time around then they will damage their cars because some potholes have become bigger and some new ones have formed,” he said.

Tamavua resident Edwin Lochan said vehicle owners who know that their vehicles were unsafe to drive in such weather should not venture out.

“If your vehicles lights are poor or wipers are playing up, I believe drivers should not risk being on the road. They are not only putting their lives in danger but others,” he said.
