What’s Happening for Fiji Day Celebratio­ns in Our Diplomatic Missions Overseas

Fijians around the world will be celebratin­g this year’s Fiji Day in style. Fiji Day 2019 marks 49 years of our independen­ce from Great Britain.

In Papua New Guinea, the Fiji High Commission there is organising a Fiji Family Fun Day at Koro Campus near the Port Moresby General Hospital. The fun day will take place this Saturday from 8am to 4pm. In London, the Fiji Day Service will take place at Westminste­r Abbey, London.

The Fiji High Commission in London has invited members of the Fijian communitie­s in and around London to attend the annual Independen­ce Day church service on October 10, 2019 at 4.15pm. In Canberra, the Fiji High Commission together with the Fiji Communitie­s in the Australian Capital Territorie­s are organising a Charity Gala Dinner to celebrate Fiji Day.

Proceeds from the event will go towards a Charitable Organisati­on in Fiji that provides long-term care for girls, young mothers, and their children. This is an opportunit­y to enjoy a 3-Course meal with entertainm­ent, great raffle and auction prizes including framed & signed Fiji Rugby 7s Jersey and Brumbies jersey whilst giving back to a worthy cause in Fiji!

The charity dinner will take place at the Hyatt Hotel Canberra on Friday, October 11, 2019.

Tickets: AUD$150 per person. In the United Arab Emirates, Fijians have been invited to come in their ‘bula’ wear and celebrate Fiji’s special day at the Bab Al Qasr Hotel from 7pm to 10pm on Friday October 11.

The Fiji High Commission in Wellington will be hosting cocktail and entertainm­ent for invited guests at the Boatshed, Wellington waterfront from 6pm to 8pm tomorrow night.

Meanwhile, staff and families working at the Fiji Mission in Geneva, celebratio­ns took place earlier in the week with a family dinner event at Fiji House.
