World Sight Day

- Neelz Singh, Lami

Our eyes are one of the most important and sensitive anatomy in our body.

Thus it is obvious that like the other parts of the body, it needs utmost care. World Sight Day is an international day of awareness, held every year on October and was observed yesterday.

But many a times, people do not understand the symptoms of weak eyesight like puffy eyes, red eyes, watery eyes, swollen eyes, itching and headache and often tend to ignore it. As a result, they end up deteriorating the vision of the eyes even more.

Therefore, a monthly visit to the healthcare provider for eye checkup is extremely necessary. You must visit an eye specialist for monthly checkups to ensure there is no problem at all.

The aim is to draw attention to a range of issues surrounding blindness and visual impairment.

It is seen as one of the most important communication and advocacy events on the eye health calendar.

These include:

To raise public awareness of issues surrounding blindness and visual impairment. To educate about blindness prevention. To generate support for vision programme and activities.

To influence big organisations, Non government organisations and ministry to participate and promote such events.

To meet the challenges for both Eye Ministry and Eye Patients and obstacles they face.

It was a day created to support people who face difficulty in seeing, reading or writing. It basically concentrates on what all can be done to assist people with such eye ailments. Eat healthy and exercise regularly is wiser than losing your sight.
