More than $11,000 was raised during the Naberei Day community soli for a village hall during the Fiji Day public holiday.

Assistant Roko Tui Macuata Epeli Tabuarua commended the Naberei Clan for working towards development goals and taking the steps forward following the awareness from Macuata Provincial Office

“I thank the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs and the Provincial offices vision to improve the standard of living for our families to bring forth a better Fiji. The Naberei Clan is taking the first steps into realising the 10-year development plan set for the province of Macuata,” Mr Tabuarua said.

“We mostly depend on assistance provided by the Government but today I am glad that we are able to take a stand and take the first steps towards development to improve our standard of living by utilising our resources in a sustainable manner to be able to provide for ourselves.

“The soli function has shown the immense resources that we are blessed with but we need to manage our resources well for it to be a source of income for us and our future generation and for development purposes,” he said.

Wailevu District representative Semi Radradra said the Naberei Clan has taken on board the vision of the Provincial office into improving the standard of living of the clan.

“This is a good initiative to spread to all the communities in the district of Wailevu, to be selfreliant and self-starters before requesting any assistance from the government, he said.” Meanwhile, it was the first time the mataqali had held such an event in the village to raise funds. “The organisers are grateful to all that have contributed to make this day a successful one and raising $11,105.75,” Naberei Day Committee member Boila Lui said.

Mr Lui said families in the village were small scale farmers, canecutters and market vendors who had been looking forward to raise funds for their community hall and evacuation centre for Vatulovona and Vunikawakawa Villagers which were about 40 kilometres from Labasa Town.
