FANS PITCH IN TO HELP EX-RUGBY STAR
Fans from all over the globe pitched in to assist former Flying Fijians wing Rupeni ‘Bua Bullet’ Caucau in setting up a taxi business in Bua, Vanua Levu. This comes after Caucau revealed he was bankrupt in a Pacific Rugby Players’ Welfare video earlier this year.
“The assistance came through after a video clip made a few months ago, highlighting on my rugby career,” Caucau said.
“The clip was then uploaded on social media, and whoever was inspired by the clip donated to raise funds for my business. I am blessed to be the first to be assisted.
“After leaving rugby, I decided to come back home and focus on my family and yaqona farm.
“It was my idea to get a taxi business running in our village as transportation is very difficult here in Nasau which is more than 30 kilometers of rugged road to the main shopping centre in Nadrukudruku,
Lekutu,Bua.
“I am very grateful to everyone that have helped in setting up a taxi business for me.
“The names of those that donated is engraved on the plate pasted on the vehicle.
“Right now, we’re already enjoying the benefits of having a means of transport and it means a lot to me and my family,”said the father of three.
The former winger would like to encourage young players to be more wise in saving some money for life after their professional rugby career.
“One day your rugby days will end but its your life after that matters to, so while in the career also set up a backup plan,” the former flying Fijians said. Meanwhile, former Manu Samoa player and Pacifc Rugby Players Welfare chief executive Daniel Leo posted a photo on Twitter after handing over Caucau his new ride last week in Suva.
The 39-year-old played for Northland in the NPC and the Blues, starring as the Auckland franchise stormed to the 2003 Super Rugby title. He later played for French Clubs.
He also played for the Flying Fijians from 2003 to 2010, scoring some memorable tries at the 2003 Rugby World Cup in Australia.
