YOUNG TIMOCI URGE LEADERS TO WALK THE TALK
Fiji’s young climate change activist, Timoci Naulusala, has urged leaders in the public and private sectors to do more to protect our environment against the threats of climate change. The 14-year-old was the youngest speaker during the final day of the 2019 Pacific Early Childhood Development (ECD) Forum at the Sheraton Fiji Resort in Nadi yesterday. Timoci, who was accompanied by his mother, Raijeli Naulusala told more than 140 Government leaders at the forum that they must inspire each other and develop solutions to protect our planet.
“I have a message for adults and leaders of society, I think that some of you are trying your best to protect the planet for future generations, but you can do more,” Timoci said.
“I like to say, you need to walk the talk.
“We are stronger together and I know that if we keep pushing, we can change the world forever.” He said as a young climate change activist for Fiji and the Pacific, he also wanted world leaders to understand how the impact of climate change posed a major threat for children and their families in Fiji. “I remember Tropical Cyclone Winston when it struck our nation two years ago, my family, brothers and sisters, stayed together in our home,” he said.
“Today, things are still not right we are where we were before the cyclone.
“All of us who live in island nations, are already seeing, feeling and living the consequences of a warming planet.
“The time to take action against climate change is nearly up. I am so worried about my generation and the lives of children in Fiji and the Pacific Islands who will struggle to survive if we do not stop this problem now.”
