Paramatta Eels cult hero Maika Sivo has re-signed with the club until 2021.

The winger has been a revelation since joining the club at the start of the season, debuting for the Eels in round one after joining from rivals Penrith.

Since then, the 25-year-old Fijian has become a fan favourite at Parramatta, scoring 22 tries in 25 games, becoming an integral part of their finals push.

He has been rewarded for the strong season with an upgraded contract, which will see the Fijian flyer stay at the club until the end of the 2021 NRL season.

Sivo expressed his delight in securing his future with the club, thanking fans for their support. “I’m excited to be in the blue and gold until 2021, see you in paradise,” he said via social media. His meteoric rise has taken the rugby league community by storm, particular immortal Andrew Johns, who said last month that he was amazed at how he has taken to the game despite not knowing many of the rules.

“I was talking to Michael Jennings at the start of the year and I was watching him (Sivo) off the ball,” Johns told Wide World of Sports’ Immortal Behaviour.

“First day at off-season training they’d come up and they were doing scrimmage, he gets tackled and he puts the ball behind him like rugby union. They were all bursting out laughing.

“At scrums, he would be talking to him, and he said ‘he still doesn’t understand the rules’.

“The crowd chanting his name is so infectious. The atmosphere it will generate, and it’ll inspire his teammates around him.

“He’s been the find of the year, a great story.”
