Staff of Morgans Financial Limited, Australia’s largest national full-service stockbroking and wealth management network, have set aside their leave to be in Fiji and provide a widower a new home for him and his son. The 10 volunteer staff members from Morgans were at the construction site at Tavakubu Village in Lautoka constructing the home, in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity Fiji, and putting a smile back onto the face of Jiuta Vuda.
With more than 240,000 client accounts, 500 authorised representatives and 950 employees operating from offices in all states and territories in Australia, Mr Vuda said he would forever be grateful to the men and women of Morgans who gave up their holidays to provide a home for him for his son.
Morgans provides diversified financial consulting services. The Company offers stockbroking, financial planning, wealth portfolios, tax and retirement planning, investment funds and vehicles, and individualized planning for individual, corporate, and institutional clients.
Ben Hatcher, a Director of Morgans and who is leading the team said this was their third year into carrying out their corporate social responsibilities.
“We raise funds through several ways and for this project we raised $40,000.
“We have around 65 offices throughout Australia with the head office in Brisbane and branches in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth,” Mr Hatcher said. “We have been operating for over 30 years and are very happy to be in Fiji to help build a home for someone.
“This is the third year we are doing this with the first in Vietnam, then last year in Sri Lanka and this year in Fiji and we would love to come back,” he said.
“We have been helping Australian investors with stockbroking services for over 30 years.
“Of the group of 10, seven are here in Fiji for the first time and we just love it here.
“We are really enjoying it and the local food, (provided by some villagers of Tavakubu Village) has been excellent.
Habitat representative at the site, May Bainivalu, said the project was initiated through their working with the District Office for Lautoka.
And they were then put in touch with the turaga ni koro (village headman) of some villages. “We then look at all the cases and pick the most vulnerable one so here we have chosen Mr Vuda as he and his son have been staying with extended family members,” Ms Bainivalu said.
“Mr Vuda was shocked when we told him we were going to build him a home with the help of Morgans because he is unemployed and has no source of income.” Mr Vuda said he would be forever grateful to Morgans and Habitat for what they have done for him and his son.
“I am so happy that I now will have my own home. My wife died three years ago and I wish she was here today to see this,” Mr Vuda said.
