Air Vanuatu in partnership with the Airbus Foundation has organised a flight demonstration for its Government officials and partners to experience firsthand the comfort capability the Airbus A220-300 has to offer.

During the flight demonstration on Tuesday, the A220-300 aircraft made its route from Bauerfield Airport in Port Vila, Efate, to Pekoa Airport in Santo.

The A220 offers superior passenger comfort by featuring large windows in every seat row thus offering more natural light and more visuality to the exterior domain, including the widest economy seats in its class as well as a wide aisle to allow stress-free boarding for passengers and crew.

Advanced with the latest generation flight deck with fly-by-wire and geared turbofan engines, the A220 offers the perfect cabin space for passenger comfort and airline performance. The A220 also provides innovative and spacious lavatories, as well as sizeable overhead compartments.

Air Vanuatu chief executive officer (CEO) Derek Nice explained why that the airline has ordered four Airbus aircrafts from the A220 family: two A220-100 and two A220-300 to join the AVL fleet.

The A220-100 is 35m in length with a maximum seating of 135 whereas the A220-300 has an overall length of 38.7m and can convey a maximum of 160 passengers. “Vanuatu is the first country in the South Pacific region to receive an Airbus A220 aircraft,” said Mr Nice.

“We are going to increase the number of flights that we are offering in each destination.

“We will expand our travel routes to additional cities so we can bring more people to Vanuatu and we also have an attractive schedule predesigned for visitors.”

The first purchased by Air Vanuatu is expected to arrive in June 2020.
