Her late dad and courageous mum have been the source of inspiration for Suva Grammar School best all rounder Kesaia Waqaivolavola.

She scooped not one, but four awards during the SGS prizegiving ceremony on Friday.

The Navakawau Village in Taveuni lass, took out the Principal’s Honor Award, and awards in leadership, best all rounder and the best sportsperson.

A day before the prizegiving ceremony, and in a gesture of appreciation, Ms Waqaivolavola paid a visit to her late father’s resting place at Lovonilase Cemetery in Suva.

“I simply wanted to convey my inner appreciation to him. My dad died when I was nine years old and he was the reason why I am taking science subjects now.

“I always thank the Lord for giving my mum the courage and strength for taking care of me and most importantly my other four siblings. She is my motivator every single day,” she said.

Mum, Kolora Waqaivolavola shed tears of fulfillment and statisfcation as she recalled the challenges she faced in nurturing and raising her five children.

“I thank God for the strong support system that my kids and I have,” the happy yet humble mum said.

“I am so proud of what Kesaia and her twin sister accomplished today. It was through God’s guidance that she managed to accomplish it all. “And with her perseverance and resilience she managed to achieve her goals.”

Kesaia is hoping to get into medical school and pursue her dream of becoming a doctor.

“I feel so happy and blessed getting all these awards and to know that all the sacrifices I have made have finally paid off,” the 18-yearold said.
