Upcoming Nikesh ‘The Blade’ Prasad wants to continue from where his uncles have left off.

The 19-year-old is the nephew of the late Zulfikar Joy ‘The Jet’ Ali and Junior ‘The Razor’ Farzan Ali. Joy was a former Pan Asia Boxing Association (PABA) super welterweight champion and was ranked No.15 by the World Boxing Association (WBA).

Prasad will be making his profession debut against hard hitting Edriel Thein at Prince Charles Park, Nadi on November 30. The fight is one of the undercards of the Kiran Boxing Promotions, which features three international title fights.

“I want to follow my uncles’ footsteps,” Prasad said.

“I have big legacy to follow and this debut fight is the first step towards it. Let’s see what the future holds for us.”

Prasad who is self-employed has been training hard for the past weeks.

“It’s an honour to be part of a programme where three international title fights are held under one programme.

“I thank the promoter for giving me a fight and make my dream come true.”

Prasad’s mum, Farina Raza said she has been supporting his eldest son pursue his boxing career. “He is my son and we want to maintain our family background in the sport. “My two brothers did perform to the highest level once.

“As their sister I’m proud for their achievements unfortunately I don’t box but my son wants to follow that same road as well.” Promoter Ben Krishna said achieving great things starts with a little step.

“Giving Nikesh his first pro and who knows what the future holds for him in the sport. We wish him all the best in this fight.”
