Save water, every drop is precious

-

Ashneel Kumar, Tavua

Water is an important element for mankind and every living thing on earth, hence, we must use it in an environment conscious manner. Thus, as an environmentally conscious citizen, I would like to raise my concern on the wastage of water.

As recently broadcasted in the news, the water level in the dams are critically low, which is due to low rain fall. This effect should have an impact on people who are fond of wasting water in the name of residential, commercial and industrial usage. As fresh water supply is meant for drinking purpose, many users continue to use it for other purposes such as cleaning, washing vehicles, irrigating the gardens and farms and much more.

It is understandable that these tasks must be carried out on a daily basis however, at the moment it is not as important as saving water for drinking purpose as the water level is decreasing.

There is always room for improvement so we can work together to save every droplet of water from being wasted. This includes: repairing leakages, drinking water in glass, minimise the use of water to wash vehicle and surrounding (do it on a monthly basis) and reporting any water leakages that is beyond repair to the Water Authority of Fiji as soon as possible.

As climate change is the cause of this issue, we should also take actions to battle against catalyst that contribute towards climate change. This includes: fighting pollution, beating emissions and afforestation.

Water shortage is an issue that affects everyone hence, it requires a collective effort by the public to minimise the wastage of water. I hope my concern will be taken into consideration.
