Scarlets want $400K for Mooar- report

-

Cardiff: Welsh rugby club Scarlets are resigned to losing coach Brad Mooar to Ian Foster’s All Blacks coaching team, but want around $400,000 in compensation, according to a Welsh news report.

Mooar - a former Crusaders assistantcoach - is reportedly being targeted as an All Blacks’ assistant-coach, working alongside current Hurricanes head coach John Plumtree, former Ireland scrum coach Greg Feek and current defence coach Scott McLeod, who have all been linked to the Foster ticket.

The Wales Online news site reported yesterday that Scarlets had started a search for a new coach “after becoming resigned to losing Brad Mooar to the All Blacks”. Mooar’s Kiwi assistant - former Highlanders defence coach Glenn Delaney - could be a contender to step into the Scarlets’ hot seat, but the report suggested the Llanelli-based club were also looking at outside options. Veteran Wales Online rugby writer Andy Howell said he understood Scarlets have

“put a price tag of around the £200,000 $NZ400,000) mark” on Mooar’s head to grant an early release.

Mooar is six months into a three-year contract with the Welsh club, which does not want to lose him. But, Howell wrote: “Powerbrokers concede there’s no point attempting to hold on to the 45-year-old if he’s intent on accepting what may be a once in a lifetime approach to become a coach with the All Blacks”.

Mooar has said he was humbled but “torn” at interest from the All Blacks, but, in the meantime, was devoting his energy to Scarlets’ Pro 14 and European Champions Cup campaigns after guiding them to seven wins from 10 matches since arriving from New Zealand.

“The question has been asked, we are grown adults and are having responsible conversations and things will pan out,” the former Christchurch lawyer said.
