Aman is in critical condition at the Lautoka Hospital after suffering massive burns from an explosion at their workplace in Ba last Saturday. Two others suffered serious injuries

Avinesh Gosai, 27, suffered 80 per cent burns, and doctors have told family members that he has very little chances of pulling through.

The other two, identified as Fareed and Ronald, are said to be in a stable condition.

The three are employed by Dayals Steel Pte Limited, a subsidiary of MR Dayal and Sons. Company director Jai Dayal said the explosion happened because of negligence. He said the workers were instructed to clear the fuel tank before welding.

However, he said the welder started working on the leaking fuel tank while Avinesh and Fareed were still clearing out the fuel at the Dayals Steel site.

He said it was an unfortunate incident as the explosion caused the fuel and fire to spill on Avinesh. “This could have been avoided if the instructions were followed. We maintain high standards of safety,” Mr Dayal said.
