One of the two bikers who was involved in an accident along the Nawai stretch in Nadroga last Sunday is recovering at the Lautoka Hospital’s trauma ward.

Rimal Nand, 29, who has a business in information technology (IT) suffered injuries to his leg during the accident.

The other biker, Tao Ahua, 42, also a businessman, remains in critical condition at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). He suffered injuries to his arm.

Mr Ahua’s friend, Clarence Tsau, 38, said both had undergone surgery.

“The family members of the two bikers are still devastated after their loved ones are spending Christmas and New Year at the Lautoka Hospital,” Mr Tsau said.

The Fiji Motorcycle Association is pleading with all road users to be vigilant and considerate during this festive season.

Its president, Rodney Fong, said: “We beg all road users to please, think of our loved ones this festive season. Please be careful, be vigilant and considerate at all times. We’ve buried too many of our brothers in recent times.”

The two bikers were among a group of five who were on their way to Nadi at the time of the alleged incident.

It is alleged that the driver of the vehicle involved in the accident was intoxicated while travelling to Sigatoka.

The driver of the vehicle was in Police custody and investigations are still ongoing.

Meanwhile, a 28-year-old operator of a car wash in Nadi remains in stable condition at the Lautoka Hospital’s ICU.

It is alleged that he suffered serious injuries during an alleged stabbing incident at the car wash in Korovuto on December 17.

According to a sister of the victim, his brother suffered a few deep-gash wounds on his head and hands as well.

Police investigations are ongoing as well.
