You can achieve anything if you are determined to prosper, said Assistant Minister for Employment, Productivity, Industrial Relations, Youth and Sports Alvick Maharaj.

Mr Maharaj was speaking to the youths of Vatulovona Village, Macuata, during their Youth Appreciation Day on Monday.

He said Government placed a lot of emphasis on youth groups.

“We believe the future is here and the youths can actually lead us, that is why we are focusing so much on youth clubs as they can start acting responsibly and organising things themselves,” Mr Maharaj said.

“My request is when forming the youth group, all the executives to be youths, all those above the age of 35 to be advisers and not to take the executive positions,” he said.

“It is very important for the youths to be responsible as it is in your hands how you want to prosper in your future. I hope my visit here will make a difference as to activate your youth group after it is registered.”

Mr Maharaj encouraged youths to take part in sports as it united everyone, and not to discriminate as we are all Fijians.

He challenged the youths that if he could be the youngest parliamentarian at age 30, then anyone could.

Youth adviser Boila Lui said they were delighted by the visit.

“During our village meeting last week, we decided to do something to show our appreciation for our youths, our children as we come to the end of another year,” Mr Lui said.

“Our children have not only achieved well academically but also in sports, where two of our young girls were named in the nation’s women’s football team and we’re really proud of that,” he said.
