As we head into yet another year, we stand at the beginning of a new decade, thinking about what we can do within our careers and our personal lives and how we can improve, or make things better, or achieve dreams we have.

Problem is, if we don’t work out what we want to do and how we will do it, then how will we start the journey towards achieving goals this year?

Nothing will help you achieve your goals unless you DO something

To achieve things in life (weight loss, giving up cigarettes, making a career move or buying a new car) we have to put EFFORT into it.

Nothing falls from the skies and into our laps in this world. We have to work for it.

What do you want to achieve in 2020?

What goals do you have for your career and life?

Dreams about a great future or getting a new career are just thoughts in your head unless you choose to work out an action plan to get there and follow it every day.

Dreams are dreams and won’t get you anywhere.

Firm goals and an action plan will!

Get Motivated! The time to make changes for a better career is NOW!

SMART Goals

There is much research about successful people and what makes them top of their game. Some outcomes conclude that these people know what they want to do, have a plan and follow it. They don’t settle for what they don’t want.

They follow their goals and execute their plan.

SMART Goals are designed to encourage you to achieve your passions this year.

So rise to the occasion.

Feel energized, motivated. If you don’t build your dream, someone else will hire you to build theirs!

5 Parts of a SMART Goal

nSpecific: You goal must be precise.

Example: By June 30 2020 I will find a new more suitable role for my skills.

■Measurab●e: What measurement will tell you that you have achieved your goal?

Example: In your plan work out what you want to achieve each month to reach this goal and assess your progress.

■Achievab●e: Is this goal possible in the time frame you want to achieve it, given the circumstances of your life?

Example: I will finish my degree this year and look after two children and work, so a new career by June 30 2020 may not be achievable.

■Rea●istic: Can I achieve my goals given the current climate of my organisation?

Example: The organisation’s focus is on quality in the first half of the year so will this prevent me from changing my career in the time frame I have indicated?

■Time-Bou■d: The period of time in which I want to achieve my goal

Example: I want to be Manager by June 15 2020

A goal properly set is halfway reached

Your Success depends on You! Others can encourage us and help us feel good about ourselves for pursuing ours goal but at the end of the day, it is up to every individual to move their careers and lives overall in the direction theywant to go.

If not you, then who?
