International Social Security Association Pacific Desk Office Opens in Suva Today
The Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF) are hosting the President of the International Social Security Association (ISSA) Professor Dr Joachim Breuer on his first visit to Fiji.
Dr Breuer, who arrived yesterday, has several meetings with key stakeholders today, before officially opening the ISSA Pacific Desk Office – based at the FNPF headquarters.
At the opening of the ISSA Focal Point at Suva’s Grand Pacific Hotel, the Permanent Secretary for Economy Makereta Konrote will be present to give the opening address. The FNPF chief executive officer Jaoji Koroi will present on the topic of Strengthening Our Role in Social Security.
ISSA President Professor Dr Breur will also give an address. He will fly out of the country later tonight to the USA.
About Dr Breuer
According, to the ISSA website, he was re-elected for a second three-year term as President of the International Social Security Association (ISSA), October last year.
He returns to
US.
His ambition is to further strengthen IS
SA’s membership and international position.

Forum organised in the Belgian capital.”
Professor Dr Breuer is renowned expert on social security and social insurance. Having served as Director General of the DGUV – German Social Accident Insurance – between 2002 and 2019, he is today their Ambassador for International Relations. He said: “I am honoured by the strong support from ISSA member institutions, and my ambition for this new period will be to further build and strengthen our Association.
“We aim for new members from new countries, and we want to be a leading voice for social security internationally,” said Professor Dr Breuer after his re-election.”
The ISSA today counts more than 320 member institutions in over 150 countries.
