STUDENT LEADERS THANK PARENTS FOR SUPPORT

Metuisela Cavu is happy to fulfil his father’s dream by becoming the Fiji LDS Church College head boy.

The 19-year-old, of Nukuni Village Ono-i-Lau Island said his father, a fisherman, had inspired him to pursue leadership roles when the opportunity surfaced.

“My dad was head boy in his primary school days,” he said.

“So that encouraged me to be disciplined as I set goals to be a good leader.

“The motivation for me was the struggle my parents went through to get me here.”

Whenever Metuisela encounters stumbling blocks in life, he recalls what and how his parents struggled to raise him up.

“I want to stand on my two feet to ensure they do not struggle again,” Metusela said.

He eyes a career in aircraft engineer.

Metuisela acknowledged all the help he got from school teachers to strengthen his faith and continue to do his best as he leads the students.

His advise to students, is to always do the right thing.

“If you are following the wrong friends or end up in bad situations, you walk away from them,” the Nukuni lad said.

He knows a lot about making sacrifices, having represented Fiji in the Junior, Under-65 kilogrammes category during the South Pacific Bodybuilding Competition last year.

“I plan to take part again in the bodybuilding competition in Tonga on November 13,” he said.

Inspiration

Also heaping praise on parents was head girl Kasanita Baleiwai.

“I could not make it this far without her parents support.

“They are my inspiration and they always encouraged me to do better,” she said.

Kasanita said her parents advised her to be strong mentally because she had the power to change bad circumstances.

“They said I hold the key to change,” Kasanita said.

The 17-year-old pure science student, who hails from the province of Ra, said she looked forward to lead the students well and become a good team player.

“LDS is the best and only school to teach seminary studies, like Gospel school,” she said.

Ms Baleiwai said she was

“I’m not good at public speaking, but I will to overcome the challenge and build my self confidence as I go along.”
