Student Heads Ready to Take On Lead Role
Asenaca Rurunacagi moved a step closer to realising her dream to travel the world after being inducted head girl of Lekutu Secondary School in Bua yesterday.
The 19-year-old of Tavea Island off the Bua coast aspires to become an air hostess.
“Being away from parents and staying in hostel has changed my way of thinking,” the eldest of five siblings said.
“I always miss my parents, being the only daughter in the family.”
But she always encourages herself to do great things so that she can find happiness and reach her goal.
Lekutu Secondary School has 260 students from Year Nine to Year 13 with 60 hostel students and 26 prefects.
“For 2020 I have to perform my best with an aim to achieve excellence in all school activities including academic,” she said.
“I thank all teachers for trusting me to lead the school.”
For newly-inducted head boy, Pawan Kumar, self-confidence is a family trait having won the best leadership award last year. “My elder brother was also the hostel head boy of Labasa College and so the leadership skills run in our family,” Pawan said. “Although I chose to remain in this rural-based secondary school, I am proud to from Bua Province and living in a school located where my home is.”
The 18-year-old is originally from Lekutu, Bua, and is the second eldest of three siblings.
