BAINIMARAMA OPENS GOVERNMENT

CENTRE IN DADA, NAMOSI

- SHALVEEN CHAND Edited by Ivamere Nataro

Political differences were put aside as Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and Tui Namosi Ratu Suliano Matanitobua joined hands in opening the Government Station in Dada, Namosi yesterday.

Ratu Suliano is a SODELPA Member of Parliament in Opposition. The Government Station will soon become a one-stop shop for Government services for the people of the Namosi province.

Ratu Suliano said he was happy as this would help the people of Namosi. The Government Station provides services for 18 villages spread across four districts — Veinuqa, Wainikoroaluva, Naqarawai and Namosi.

The project was initiated by the community members of the upper Namosi region because of the travel required to access services such as health and agriculture.

The Government Station houses the Ministry of Agriculture and the Provincial Administrator’s Office. With time, the PA’s Office would also start registering deaths, births and provide registration for Vola ni Kawa Bula.

Mr Bainimarama said there were plans to build more Government Offices and staff quarters including a Level B Health Centre, Namosi Provincial Office and Ministry of Forestry Branch.

Mr Bainimarama said upon hearing the pledge of the people of Namosi, the Government came up with the $1.5 million investment.

“This new station marks the beginning of a new chapter. Through its doors, Government services will instantly become available,” he said.

“We are easing the burden of travelling to receive such services, we are saving you time and money, allowing you to spend those precious hours generating income and, most importantly, taking care of your family and community.” Mr Bainimarama said he was hoping for progress in agriculture from Namosi. He said the accessibility of agricultural technical advice and service would do that.

Saliadrau villager Susana Marama said this was indeed a happy day.

“Travelling for miles to get small services is our biggest concern. I am happy that this Government Station has opened the way for other services,” she said.

“Most villagers are looking forward to the day when a health centre will open here.”
