RKS SPRINTER TARGETS 10.2SEC
RECORD SET BY TABAKAUCORO IN 100M EVENT
Ratu Kadavulevu School sprinter and defending Coca-Cola Games blue ribbon champion, Kolinio Radrudru,has set his sights in breaking the senior boys’ 100 metres record.
The record of 10.20 seconds was set by Pacific sprint king, Banuve Tabakaucoro, in 2011 while running for Marist Brothers High School.
Radrudru, running for Cakau House yesterday, easily took out the 100m final during the RKS inter-house competition at Lodoni, Tailevu North.
He was far from happy about his performance as racing officials refused to release his official time.
“There is a lot more work to be done if I am to break the record that was set by Pacific sprint king Banuve Tabakaucoro,” he told SUNsports. “My aim this year is to try and break the record of the senior boys 100 metres. I know it won’t be easy, but I’m working hard towards it. I clocked 10.64s last year so I will have to train extra hard to smash that record.”
Radrudru said he would have to work on his starting.
“I had a slow start today, but l’ll improve as we continue training through the weeks heading to the Tailevu Zone meet.
“I really have to train hard in order to defend my title.”
Radrudru said they would be camping next week to prepare for the zone competition.
“This is a good thing for me as I will work on my fitness with my coach and teachers,” he said.
“First things first. I understand the zone meet will be a tough one so I’m making sure that I prepare well for it. I believe I still have to work hard on my fitness.” Radrudru said this year he would be running in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay events.
He hails from Nawaca Village in Bua, which is also the home of National Rugby League (NRL) star winger Suliasi Vunivalu.
