I Was Doing My Duty as a Father, says Hero Taxi Driver Ravudolo
Ataxi driver yesterday said he was only doing his duty as a father when he rescued two girls missing from their home on Wednesday morning.
Luke Ravudolo, 39, said when he saw the two girls walking on Khalsa Road in Nasinu, he thought of his own daughters who are about the same age.
Sainimili Ravouvou, 5, and younger sister Kinisimere Seru,3, left home barefoot to search for their mother, who lives in Khalsa Road when Mr Ravudolo came to the rescue.
What happened
Mr Ravudolo said he was heading to drop two passengers in Tacirua when he saw the kids.
“I went back to Khalsa Road after dropping the passengers to see if the kids were there or not,” he said.
He said they were still walking along the roadside in the rain.
“My heart went heavy when I saw the kids getting wet and walking alone without any supervision,” Mr Ravudolo said.
“I considered them as my own kids and decided to take them to the Police station immediately. “After asking them where they were heading to, the five-year-old said, they were searching for their mother in Khalsa Road.”
Without any hesitation, Mr Ravudolo took them to the Tacirua Police Station and requested the Police to take the kids to their home. “I prayed to God for the kids to return to their homes safely,” he said.
Mr Ravudolo has been driving a taxi for two years and his wife, Aralai Ravudolo, is a school teacher at Nabua Secondary School. They have five children. A guardian angel and a staunch Christian, he attends the Anglican Church.
Ms Ravudolo said she was emotional and proud when she got to know that her husband had saved the lives of two young girls.
“These days, it is very difficult to see people helping one another,” she said.
“Parents must be more responsible while looking after their children.”
Mr Ravudolo said he was emotional when reading the Fiji Sun.
