Minister Akbar Lifts Spirit of School Prefects

Asurprise visit by the Minister of Education, Rosy Akbar, to Khemendra Central School in Savusavu, lifted the morale of newly inducted prefects. Minister Akbar, was in Savusavu to meet heads of school in the Cakaudrove Province on Wednesday.

Noticing her presence head prefects Jack Lian and Rowina Sharma, expressed their excitement by taking a photo with Ms Akbar.

Jack originally from Guangdong, China and living with his parents in Savusavu for 12 years said he felt honoured to be the head boy.

“It will be an exciting journey for me because I will have to plan my timetable in such a way that I manage my studies and help with the school operations,” Jack said.

“I have the self confidence to carry out all responsibi­lities of being head boy because I’m always firm on discipline and performed well academical­ly.”

Aspiring to become a scientist, he plans to contribute to Fiji’s climate change programme in saving the environmen­t.

For head girl, Rowina, 12, the expectatio­ns are high.

“Especially with my parents being teachers at the school,” she said.

“It is going to be challengin­g to work with 72 prefects, 809 students and 25 teachers from Year One to Eight,” Rowina said. “Neverthele­ss, I am proud to be the head girl of the school and thank teachers for their faith in choosing me.”

Deputy head boys- Aryan Singh and Vetara Taoi.

Deputy head girls- Taraivini Keni and Shiritika Nand.
